Matson Line Colorful Menus

Historically, the MATSON LINE was known for issuing some of the most beautiful menu covers of all time.  One of the most famous sets was a series of beautiful Watercolor covers that depict the various ports of call of the Matson Line.  This series was used from the late 1950s until the transfer of the ships to Pacific Far East Line in the early 1970s.  The illustrations were done by the artist “Macouillard”.

All of these are actual folder type menus that were used aboard the Matson Line ships.  In addition to the beautiful full color cover illustration, each contains the actual menu printed inside, as well as the ship name and date.  Traditionally, the menus contain a wide selection of food items, as shipboard dining was a gourmet experience.  All of these are in Very Good to Excellent condition, and are suitable for framing.  (In fact, we have learned that the covers of this series are being displayed framed at hotels & restaurants in the various regions.)  There is a brief paragraph on the back of each menu that describes the cover illustration. The menus measure a large 9×12″. There are the original menus, they have not been reproduced.

Most of the menus we have are from the liner “MARIPOSA”.
